Newport Art Museum's PM Musical Picnic

June 24, Wednesday
The New Era Jazz Band: 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
An evening of Big Band music modeled after the big band sound of band greats such as Doc Severinson, Maynard Ferguson, Glenn Miller, and Harry James, to name several. The seventeen piece orchestra is comprised of musicians from Rhode Island and Massachusetts and features music by Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, and numerous other entertainers from the Big Band Era.

June 25, Thursday
The East Bay Summer Wind Ensemble: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
The East Bay Jazz Ensemble: 7:45 - 9:15 p.m.
Their repertoire includes a wide range of material from the 1930’s through the present. From Big Band, Swing, Standards, Jazz, Oldies, Motown, Classic Rock, Latin, Ballroom, and many more diversified styles, The East Bay Jazz Ensemble something to please everyone. 

June 26, Friday
The Navy Band Northeast: 7:00 - 9:15 p.m.
One of thirteen official bands of the United States Navy, this band serves as the ambassador for the Commander, Navy Region Northeast, and is comprised of 45 professional Navy musicians. 

June 27, Saturday
Detroit Breakdown Band: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
The Detroit Breakdown Band is a long awaited project that includes members of some of the top bands in this area. Paul Petit, a singer and harmonica player for thirty years in bands such as Shot In the Dark and the Mill City Rockers, is the lead vocalist and is an avid fan of the J. Geils Band. He brings the old school songs of the classic era from Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, and the Allman Brothers, to the modern stage.
The Driftwoods: 7:45 - 9:15 p.m.
The East Coast’s original Beach Boys Band.

June 28, Sunday
Special Children's Show with Steve Zany: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
With RI magician and ventriloquist Steve Zany.  He is a wacky family entertainer who will keep kids of all ages (and parents too), amazed, laughing and clapping for more.
Lullabye of Broadway: 7:45 - 9:15 p.m.
The cast of Lullabye of Broadway III will have you clapping your hands, tapping your feet, and singing along to a satisfying uplifting program full of show tunes from dozens of Broadway musicals spanning generations.

June 29, Monday
Patrick McAloon: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Variety of influences that include Counting Crows, Sting, David Gray, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews Band, Sarah McLachlan, Jeff Buckley, Willy Porter, and Aimee Mann.

June 30, Tuesday
Bristol Senior Citizens Chorus: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
The Bristol Senior Citizens Chorus will perform a one hour program that will include selections from Broadway Shows, Famous Composers, Popular Entertai
ners, and Patriotic Compositions.
The United States Air Force Band of Liberty: 7:45 - 9:15 p.m.
This world class symphonic wind ensemble presents a wide variety of repertoire from light classics, popular favorites and instrumental features, to classical transcriptions and original works for the band idiom. Its members represent the best-of-the-best musical talent and education within the Air Force.

July 1, Wednesday
Changes In Latitudes: 7:00 - 9:15 p.m.
At 7:00 p.m. a show will be presented that honors singer songwriter Jimmy Buffett, the master of the tropical lifestyle. Every show is good clean fun to be enjoyed by the whole family. With beach balls flying, dancing conga lines, and leis galore, and a unique tropical stage setup, Changes In Latitudes recreates the Buffett Concert experience with amazing authenticity. The band’s original material is frequently featured on Jimmy Buffet’s “Radio Margaritaville” as well as on Sirius Satellite Radio and numerous FM Stations. Prepare yourself for a “Latitude Adjustment”, get out your grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts and head for the tropics with Changes In Latitudes.

July 2, Thursday
Patterson/Smith Trio: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Immediately following the National Anthem we begin an evening of Jazz, Swing, and Rhythm and Blues beginning with the smooth styling’s of The Patterson Smith Trio with a Guest Appearance by Evie Lavey. Jazz interpretations of cool music will be accompanied by a vocal performance of popular standards. The members of Patterson Smith have extensive performance experience in a variety of musical genres and have been performing for many years throughout the East. Formally trained at Berklee College, Nick Smith exhibits a very fluid guitar style that is supported by the solid bass and drums foundation of Ken and Alan Patterson, complimented by the vocals of Evie Lavey, trained by the New York Conservatory of Music’s Voice Instructor Alice Hanna. Sit back, listen, and enjoy!
Bellevue Cadillac: 7:45 - 9:15 p.m.
For those who like Swing, punctuated with Jazz and Blues, Bellevue Cadillac at 8:00 PM will make your heart thump and attitude come alive. Their music has been on The Sopranos, Access Hollywood, Sex and The City, and in the Movie Shallow Hal. They have appeared with Bill Murray, Jack Nicholson, Aerosmith, Ray Charles, James Brown, and on and on. Fronted by “Professor” Doug Bell, this eight piece band is comprised of musicians’ musicians. Whether it’s a “cover” of someone else’s material or their own, your senses will be stimulated by what you see and hear.

July 3, Friday
Bristol County Interfaith Choir: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Bristol County Interfaith Choir was founded by members of a church choir who wanted to do more than the weekly service demanded.  Today 10 communities in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts are represented, not all of whom are choir singers. They are in effect a community chorus. The Founder/Director is Joan Roth.

Kings Row: 8:00 - 9:30 p.m.
The final show is being performed by New England’s #1 Oldies Band – King’s Row.


Wednesday, June 24th, 6PM at 76 Bellevue Ave.
Once-monthly concerts on the grounds of the Museum's Griswold House.
Featuring: The Night Life Orchestra
Pack a picnic to enjoy on the lawn. No pets. Concerts begin at 6pm.
Members Individual $5, Household $10
Non-members $10, Non-member households $15.

Thursday, June 25th, 6-8PM at Martin Recreation Center, Newport
Flag football is open to boys and girls ages 5-7; football and cheerleading is open to boys and girls ages 8-14 as of July 31, 2009.
Cost: $35 for flag football, $55 for football and cheerleading. Sibling discounts are available, and payment must be made at registration.

Outdoor Concert at Ballard Park
Friday June 26th, 6:30pm, Wickham Rd, Newport

Vejadu, winner of the Molly Finn Battle of the Bands.  Seating for the concert is on the grass. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and arrive 15 minutes prior to the performance to ensure a place to park and time to make their way down to the quarry meadow.  Parking is available in the Rogers High School parking lot. FREE and open to the public.
In the event of rain, the event will be held on Saturday, June 27th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
