Norman Bird Sanctuary - Earth Extravaganza - Monday-Friday, April 19-23
Celebrate Earth Month with NBS! 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and to celebrate, we'll spotlight endangered animals, complete conservation projects, and learn how we can all make a difference. Campers will also make recycled crafts and explore the different habitats of the Norman Bird Sanctuary.
Program Cost: Members- $200 per child; Non-members- $250 per child

Audubon Environmental Education Center - Bristol
Join Audubon during the April School Vacation Week and discover nature with your family. Nature crafts will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day, as well as Nature Story Readings at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and an Animal Interview at 11:30 a.m. There is no fee or registration needed for these programs. Special hour-long programs for children are also available each day at 1:00 p.m. Registration and a $2.00 per child program fee are required for these programs! Programs are listed below.

Monday 4/19 Wetland Wonder Walk and Exploration: Discover the diverse life our wetlands and gain a better understanding of the importance they hold in our lives. Be prepared to get dirty as you travel to our wetlands with nets and magnifying glasses for a unique wetland exploration.
Tuesday 4/20 Creepy Crawlies Bugs, millipedes, worms and spiders, oh my!: Explore the world of insects, spiders and other creepy crawly critters. You’ll even get a chance to meet our resident insects. We will venture outdoors to to hunt for some wild creepy crawlies , so please dress for the weather.
Wednesday 4/21 You Otter Know Your Whales: Have fun, maybe win a prize and learn about one of the most endangered whales in the world, the North Atlantic Right Whale. Take a guess, do you know the answer? We’ll choose contestants from the audience to see who knows the most about right whales and other marine mammals!
Thursday 4/22 Feathered Frenzy: Explore the life of our feathered friends through a series of interactive games and activities. Get ready to run, jump and have some fun as we discover how birds have developed special adaptations to enable them to survive. A live bird will accompany this program.
Friday 4/23 Signs of Spring Walk: Spring is here! It was a long winter and now the insects are buzzing to life, the flowers are blooming and the animals are exploring. Discover spring! Take a nature walk with our Education staff using bug nets and magnifying glasses. You never know what you may find!
Mystic Aquarium - Shark Week
Wednesday, April 14 - Tuesday, April 20
See sharks of all shapes and sizes (including some you may not even realize are sharks!) during Shark Week April 14 to 20. Among the April vacation week activities is the chance to touch live sharks at the new shark touch pool.
Opening on April 1, the shallow touch pool provides the opportunity to reach in and touch docile white-spotted bamboo and coral cat sharks as they swim by, while learning about conservation of all shark species. The pool houses six sharks, all one to three feet in length.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, kids will learn about shark adaptations, diets, myths and conservation through interactive cart activities, games, presentations and crafts. Guests will be able to smell common scents as a shark would, participate in a shark scavenger hunt to learn about the various species at the aquarium, get an up-close look at shark teeth, fins and jaws, and play games to learn shark facts versus myths and threats sharks face in the wild.
Activities are free with aquarium admission.

Newport Art Museum - Art Camp
Spring Vacation Art Camp (ages 6-10)
April 19-23, 9AM-3:30PM
Children will create their own original artwork and exhibit it to family and friends on the last day of art camp. They will make mythological paintings inspired by Rene Stawicki's exhibit Airborn: Ovid's Avian Changes, sculpt clay sculptures of the Griswold House's dogs, draw portraits of each other, make books and more. Children are to bring lunch, snacks and drinks.

Spring Vacation Digital Photo Camp (9 years and up)
April 19-23, 9:30AM-2:30PM
Children will have fun taking pictures and developing them in the digital studio. They will learn how to alter and manipulate their images, create a portfolio of work and select an image to print on a tee-shirt. Children are to bring lunch, snacks, drinks and a 100% cotton tee-shirt.

Apr 21st - History Hunt -
Test your knowledge of historic Newport on a history hunt in and around Washington Square. This 20-question family-friendly hunt tracks colonial Newport sites and trivia. Maps are $3 per family and free for NHS members. Available at the Museum & Shop. The first five submissions with correct answers win prizes (one prize per family). 11am to 2pm.
Apr 22 - Story Time
Children ages four and up can participate in story time at the Museum & Shop at Brick at 11am. Hear a costumed storyteller share historic stories. Kids can take home games that accompany the stories. This program is free; reservations requested.
Apr 23 - Pirates & Scoundrels History Walking Tour
Weens, teens and families can enjoy the Pirates & Scoundrels history walking tour. See where scoundrels lived, where pirates profited, and where criminals were put on trial and punished. Find out why this colony was sometimes known as “Rogue's Island”. Departs at 11:30am and lasts approximately 75 minutes. The tour costs $12 per person, $10 for NHS members. Reservations suggested as space is limited.
Apr 23 - Children's Colonial Craft
At 1pm, children can learn first hand about colonial clothing and fashion and create their very own colonial inspired craft to take home: a young lady's cap or a young gentleman’s tricorn hat. April 19-23, 2010 - Liberty Week at Battleship Cove
During April School vacation week Battleship Cove offers fun activities, special presentations, and discounted admission. * PLUS be one of the 1st 100 kids to pass through our gates and receive a FREE authentic Navy uniform top.
During Massachusetts school vacation week, April 19-23, 2010, families visiting Battleship Cove (open 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) will be able to take advantage of discounted general admission (Adults $12; Children 6-12 $7 and under 6 No Charge). FREE hands-on activities including all-new scavenger hunt, learn how to spell your name out using signal flags, knot-tying workshops, flag folding demonstrations, plus more.
Families are invited to enjoy a ride on the Fall River Carousel, which will be in special operation from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. all week long (rides are $1.00 each or 7 for $5).
