Concert No. 6
6:30 PM - The Superchief Trio
The Superchief Trio features a unique combination of two-fisted piano, red hot trombone, powerful vocals and frenzied percussion antics, all rolled up into one small package. Swing, New Orleans R&B, jump blues, boogie-woogie - it's all in there. And with a repertoire of tasty original tunes and carefully selected covers by Professor Longhair, Huey Smith, Smiley Lewis, Wee Willie Wayne and a raft of others, this group is the ultimate dance-party band. Pianist Keith Munslow met trombonist Pam Murray at Providence arts incubator AS220, where they performed together in the Smoking Jackets and the Neo 90s Dance Band. Keith and Pam began playing gigs at a dim and smoky basement bar called The East Bay Regatta Club. Owing to safety in numbers, Johnny Cote was recruited, and Superchief Trio was born. The casual nature of the club encouraged recklessness and experimentation with new songs, new arrangements and inspired a higher level of daredevil musical abandon. The Superchief Trio continues the tradition of good-time music and barrelhouse hijinks.

7:45 PM - Roomful of Blues
Roomful of Blues, according to DownBeat magazine, "are in a class by themselves." With their masterful combination of jumping, horn-heavy, hard-edged blues and R&B, it's no wonder why the great Count Basie called them "the hottest blues band I've ever heard." Since 1967, the group's deeply rooted blend of swing, rock 'n' roll, jump, blues and soul has earned it five Grammy Award nominations and a slew of other accolades, including seven Blues Music Awards (one for Blues Band of the Year in 2005). The band has been led since 1996 by guitarist Chris Vachon. Guitar Player says, "Vachon burns with explosive solos and a delightfully greasy sense of rhythm." Roomful of Blues has always maintained its signature sound by boasting great musicianship and a stellar horn section -- featuring tenor and alto saxophonist Rich Latille, who first joined the band in 1970. Latille's masterful playing can evoke either the fat-toned honking sax of the glory days of early rock or the cool elegance of big band swing jazz.

With a non-stop performance schedule for over 40 years, Roomful of Blues has earned critical, popular and radio success and a legion of fans around the globe. Twice, the prestigious DownBeat International Critics Poll selected Roomful of Blues as Best Blues Band. Roomful of Blues joined the Alligator Records family with the Grammy-nominated That's Right! in 2003, followed by Standing Room Only in 2005 and Raisin' A Ruckus in 2008. All three CDs received massive amounts of critical and popular praise and earned them hordes of new fans around the world. In January 2011 they'll be back with Hook, Line & Sinker, a foot-stomping CD highlighting the intense vocal and instrumental power of the band.

Roomful of Blues has always been one of the tightest, most joyful blues ensembles in the world. They have never sounded fresher or stronger than with the current line-up. Along with Vachon and Latille, the band's present incarnation includes newest members vocalist Phil Pemberton, bassist John Turner and trumpeter Doug Woolverton, and long-time members drummer Ephraim Lowell, keyboardist Travis Colby, baritone and tenor saxophonist Mark Earley.

Over the years Roomful of Blues has played countless gigs and many major festivals, including The San Francisco Blues Festival, The King Biscuit Blues Festival, The Beale Street Music Festival, Blues On The Fox, Illinois Blues Festival, Kansas City Blues Festival, Monterey Blues Festival, Santa Cruz Blues Festival, and overseas at The North Sea Jazz Festival, The Stockholm Jazz Festival, The Montreux Jazz Festival, Notodden Festival and the Belgian Peer Festival. They've gigged with blues stars ranging from B.B. King, Otis Rush and Stevie Ray Vaughan to rockers Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana. The band has toured—as they always have—virtually non-stop, hitting cities from coast to coast, and traveling abroad to Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey and Russia.

There have been more than 50 Roomful of Blues members, each bringing his or her own unique talent and vision to the mix. Famed alumni include guitarist Ronnie Earl, vocalist Lou Ann Barton, saxist/vocalist Greg Piccolo and harpist/vocalist Sugar Ray Norcia. Recording for Rounder Records' Bullseye Blues and Varrick labels between 1980 and 2001, the band cut nine albums that won them international fame and major rock radio airplay. Band leader Chris Vachon joined in 1990 and guided the band to a Grammy nomination with their 1995 album, Turn It On! Turn It Up!.

In addition to their band recordings, Roomful of Blues often backed legendary musicians like Jimmy Witherspoon, Jimmy McCracklin, Roy Brown, Joe Turner, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson and Earl King—stars of the 1940s and 1950s blues scene, and the very people who created the music that Roomful still keeps vital and alive. Roomful recorded albums with Turner, Vinson and King during the 1980s, and all three recordings received Grammy nominations. They played with The Roomful Horns backed many other artists as well, including rocker Pat Benatar on her 1991 album True Love, Canadian star Colin James on his double platinum (in Canada) album Colin James and the Little Big Band, and Stevie Ray Vaughan on his 1984 Live At Carnegie Hall album.

In 2011, Roomful of Blues again hits the road hard, bringing their horn and guitar-fueled music to fans around the world. With their non-stop touring schedule, long-time fans and new converts alike can see for themselves why The Chicago Sun-Times said, "This is a band on top of its game, sliding easily from big-band jazz-blues to guitar-drenched urban blues….let the party begin." With Hook, Line & Sinker, the party has clearly already started.

7:45 PM - A Tribute to the Music of John Denver with Jim Curry
The music of the late John Denver is like an old friend, outlasting trends and standing the test of time. Join acclaimed performer Jim Curry for this tribute to the music of one of the most beloved singer/songwriters ever to grace the stage.

Tribute artist Jim Curry, whose voice was heard in the CBS-TV movie "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story", has performed Denver's music in sold out shows throughout the country and has emerged as today's top performer of Denver's vast legacy of multi-platinum hits. Jim's uncanny ability to mirror John's voice and clean-cut look takes you back to the time when "Rocky Mountain High" "Sunshine" "Calypso" and "Annie's Song" topped the charts, and his popular music had the heartfelt message of caring for the earth and caring for each other.

The untimely death of John Denver in 1997 was a tragedy that was felt the world over. Such a void in the musical world left John's ardent fans demanding that his music survive. CBS television responded by producing a made for TV movie "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story" in which Jim landed a role as the voice of John Denver. This experience inspired Jim to produce full–length John Denver tribute concerts. He's not your usual "Vegas style" impersonator. In fact, he is not an impersonator at all. Jim sings, in his own natural voice, a tribute to the music in a way that has to be seen and heard to understand the pure honesty of his amazing performance. His looks and his voice are simply a pleasant coincidence that captures the true essence of John Denver's music. Curry's heartfelt delivery rolls out into the crowd as John Denver's multi-platinum hits fill the venue.

From performances with the Wichita Symphony, the Knoxville Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Yuma Cultural Center, and Red Rocks in Denver, Jim has created the ultimate tribute experience and has emerged as the top performer of John Denver's music today. He often performs with John Denver's former band members Dick Kniss, Steve Weisberg, James Burton, and Lee Holdridge. Curry's tribute is the first full-length John Denver tribute in a Las Vegas Casino and is a sell-out favorite time after time. Curry has taken his show on the road to many locations in the United States and Canada.

Jim's compelling voice, combined with dramatic video images of nature, is an unforgettable show that will truly fill up your senses!  www.jimcurrymusic.com

6:30 PM - Big In Europe
Big In Europe is a Bristol, RI-based rock and pop cover band made up of 5 extremely professional, talented, fun-loving musicians who have 30+ years combined musical experience. A five-piece band, Big In Europe can cover a diverse array of tunes from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and today, from high-energy rock tunes, to the more finessed and melodic slow tunes. We pride ourselves on playing "the hits" as well as the more obscure and challenging tunes that many cover bands shy away from. With 4 vocalists in the band, we can tackle some of the classic tunes that require great vocal depth, and with a keyboardist and two drummer/percussionists the sky is the limit when it comes to re-creating those unique sounds that many of the songs on our playlist require. So check us out! We're Big in Europe...and we're about to make it big here in the States!  See them at www.bigineurope.us
